As is usual, the Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees are collecting new toys for presents for asylum seekers and refugee children for Christmas parties; the last few years were very successful, over 500 children received a present from the appeal at numerous parties throughout the city each year. Again this year, the Campaign invite you to join us to collect and to distribute presents to even more children than in the previous years.
Preferred last date for the Campaign to receive toys: Thursday 11 December 2007, but presents accepted after this date, as well, of course.
Some things you can do to help:
· Tell neighbours, friends, family and workmates
· Ask for more leaflets
· Collect new toys and goodies for passing onto refugees
· Phone the number on the bottom of the leaflet for details of storage points or to arrange for collection
· Offer to collect or deliver toys for the Campaign
· Organise a ‘wrap’ party around Saturday 16 December and wrap and label presents
Ideas for things to buy:
· Educational and fun toys for young children
· ‘Goodie bags’ for babies: cream, shampoo, wipes, etc
· Items for older kids – t-shirts, sweatshirts, trendy clothes that will make them the envy of their friends
· Games, toys and sports items for older kids
· Hats, gloves, scarves, socks etc that young teenagers would agree to wear and toiletries
· Last year we were particularly short of things for teenagers
· Gift tokens for books/music shops, selection boxes
For health and safety reasons, presents are preferred unwrapped (with the gift wrapping paper provided) unless you can guarantee their source.
